Powershell for the DBA (intro)
Hiya. I'm speaking this evening at the Hillsborough SQL User Group meetup on the topic of "Powershell for the DBA". I wrote this presentation as a introduction for folks, like myself, that spent many years as a Powershell denier. Even to this date, I will admit, the first 3 versions of Powershell gave me another 3-4 years to stay away from it. There was too much turbulence in syntax, not enough functionality to justify the plunge, and honestly way too much tribal knowledge built up in batch and vbs. Today, there's little reason to continue that thought process. The latest version(s) of Powershell are still available all the way back to 2008 R2, enabling code consistency regardless of your environment.
As DBAs, we're also expected to be automators - it should be what we do best. Powershell is the end-all product for handling automation and is now offered across most major platforms. Check out my presentation (and all the embedded commentary/transcription) for more details.
